The birth of Nordic Pop-Ups

The birth of Nordic Pop-Ups

This year came as a surprise to us all. Our big brother company (Nordic Stretch Tents) had festivals, weddings, events and brand activations booked until Covid-19 hit Swedish shores. The cancellations and postponements started pouring in and we were left with an empty calendar for 2020.

I remember my partner, Daniel and I sitting in the lounge in silence trying to let everything that just happened soak in. Were we going to sit here for a couple months more in the hope that things turned around and that the virus and legislations would disslove into thin air or would we problem solve and adapt to the current situation that was thrown at us?

We chose the latter and after an inspirational (and lucky) visit to South Africa earlier on in the year before Covid hit, we came back to Sweden loaded with ideas of how we could develop and enhance our glamping side of the business even more!

Our pop-up glamping service started in 2019 and was aimed at providing pop-up accommodation for conferences, kick-offs, festivals and weddings. Only having done a handful of events that year we thought that the glamping business would remain a side business with the main focus being our stretch tents. Luckily for us we had the foundation (and the tents and interior) to pull our glamping kit out of the shadows and bring it in to the spotlight for 2020.

Sweden’s alternative approach to handling the spread of the virus and their “soft lockdown” enabled us to continue to build and create a glamping concept that could suit the private individual and “maximum 50 people rule at public gatherings” legislation extremely well, especially seeing that there was a lot of emphasis on being outdoors and maintaining social distance.

And so, one spring day in 2020 “Nordic Pop-Ups” was born. The initial goal was to create outdoor pop-up experiences for the private individual – from intimate babyshowers and birthday celebrations with our pop-up lounges to pop-up overnight experiences in our glamping tents.

Our freed up calendar even allowed us to collaborate with land owners and place our tents on their land to experiment with our positioning in the hospitality industry in the hope of one day maybe setting up our very own permanent glamping village as an accommodation alternative.

As the summer went on more and more opportunities arose to showcase our pop-up glamping tents and lounges. Businesses and event companies began to think out of the box and called on us to use our outdoor pop-up concept as the foundation for lifting their brand or event in a way that was unique but also still kept within the new covid regulations.

From a film shoot to island glamping to a documentary launch party we feel like we have done it all…and this is only the start!

The next few blog posts will give you a little more insight as to what we have been up to this past year.

We hope that you enjoy!
